Veterens Point of View Memorial Day

God Bless AmericaTo me, the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Memorial Day is the sacrifice of all those fallen military. I think of the World Wars, and Korea, and Vietnam. The Middle East. The World Trade Center. Fallen heroes. What would the world be like today if they had not made the ultimate sacrifice?

I certainly think of my service. The friendships, the brotherhood. Soldiers old and young. Where are they now, what has their life been like? Faces that I remember of young men in their prime. Now would be old, like mine. We are only young in our mind. Sgt’s, Lieutenants, Captains, Majors, Colonels. I remember Major Reeves, from Korea, communications post at the DMZ.

Keep the memory of those fallen always. And give thanks to those that have and are serving now.

God Bless America, Always!

YouTube Down: Http/1.1 Service Unavailable

YouTube Down: Http/1.1 Service Unavailable??

Millions of YouTube users will be waking up to learn that the online video website is down, and has been since 7am Eastern Time this morning. When I first visited the site I was greeted with the message “Http/1.1 ServiceUnavailable”, that keeps changing back-and-fourth, just now it read “Service unavailable”.

Center Networks found that all embedded videos still work, but we cannot be certain of that. Go check your embedded YouTube Videos and let us know if yours are still up?

Twitter is on fire at the moment with this story, and we have not heard anything from YouTube about what the problem is and how long it will take to fix. This outage is sure to become a nightmare later when the U.S. start hitting the website.

Brittany Murphys death ruled an accident – CNN.com

READ ALL – Brittany Murphys death ruled an accident – CNN.com.

Los Angeles, California (CNN) —

Actress Brittany Murphy’s death was an accident caused by a combination of pneumonia, an iron deficiency and “multiple drug intoxication,” the Los Angeles County coroner said Thursday.

The 32-year-old actress was found dead in her Hollywood Hills, California, home December 20.

The short statement issued by the coroner’s office Thursday did not list the drugs involved, but assistant chief Ed Winter told CNN no illegal drugs were found in Murphy’s system.

The full autopsy report would be available within two weeks, the coroner’s office said.

Snow storm hits Richmond and the central Virginia area

Richmond Snow Storm

Snow storm hits Richmond and the central Virginia area

Originally they were calling for 3-6 inches of snow here. Then it changed to 6-12 inches, then it changed to 2-5 inches, then it changed to 2-12 inches. As of now, since it has started snowing, they say the Richmond, VA. metro area will get 8-14 inches. That means it is gonna snow like hell. Or, well, snow like whoa.

I took my dog out this morning and she enjoyed the snow long enough to sniff, pee, poop, then head for the house. She ain’t no dummy. Playing in the snow is for kids and pups.

War heroes flagpole at odds with neighbors

Medal of Honor citation

Van T. Barfoot

Van T. Barfoot

Second Lieutenant Barfoot’s official Medal of Honor citation reads:

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty on 23 May 1944, near Carano, Italy. With his platoon heavily engaged during an assault against forces well entrenched on commanding ground, 2d Lt. Barfoot (then Tech. Sgt.) moved off alone upon the enemy left flank. He crawled to the proximity of 1 machinegun nest and made a direct hit on it with a hand grenade, killing 2 and wounding 3 Germans. He continued along the German defense line to another machinegun emplacement, and with his tommygunkilled 2 and captured 3 soldiers. Members of another enemy machinegun crew then abandoned their position and gave themselves up to Sgt. Barfoot. Leaving the prisoners for his support squad to pick up, he proceeded to mop up positions in the immediate area, capturing more prisoners and bringing his total count to 17. Later that day, after he had reorganized his men and consolidated the newly captured ground, the enemy launched a fierce armored counterattack directly at his platoon positions. Securing a bazooka, Sgt. Barfoot took up an exposed position directly in front of 3 advancing Mark VI tanks. From a distance of 75 yards his first shot destroyed the track of the leading tank, effectively disabling it, while the other 2 changed direction toward the flank. As the crew of the disabled tank dismounted, Sgt. Barfoot killed 3 of them with his tommygun. He continued onward into enemy terrain and destroyed a recently abandoned German fieldpiece with a demolition charge placed in the breech. While returning to his platoon position, Sgt. Barfoot, though greatly fatigued by his Herculean efforts, assisted 2 of his seriously wounded men 1,700 yards to a position of safety. Sgt. Barfoot’s extraordinary heroism, demonstration of magnificent valor, and aggressive determination in the face of pointblank fire are a perpetual inspiration to his fellow soldiers.[7]

In December 2009, the homeowners’ association (HOA) of the Sussex Square, where Barfoot lives in Henrico County, Virginia, ordered him to remove the flagpole from which he flies the American flag. This news story first became public when Barfoot’s son-in-law reported the story on local talk radio show, Elliot in the Morning. The news story was soon picked up by Fox News and followed by several other national news networks. The HOA retained Coates & Davenport to help enforce their order.[8] The association’s bylaws do not forbid flagpoles, but the HOA ruled Barfoot, aged 90, would not be allowed to use it “for aesthetic reasons”. Barfoot contested the order,[9][10] and received support from politicians such as Virginia Senators Mark Warner and Jim Webb, as well as White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.[11] Barfoot won when the association dropped its request on December 8, 2009, effectively ending the controversy.
